The View, Installation, 2019
The View is a growing drawing and installation series featuring the frontal vaginal view of women’s bodies once women historically were excluded from. We see vaginas being opened up with tools, examined by gloved hands, scraped by a spatula, cut by a surgical knife, stretched thin as an infant pushes through. These images calmly flesh out the invasiveness of medical procedures done to women’s bodies, often without informed consent due to ineffective communication, barriers to understanding and patriarchal traditions.
While exposing the most intimate secrets and demystifying historical imaginations, this view has morphed into its own myth for further interpretation.
